Associate Professor Rosemary Purcell

 

Rosemary Purcell (M.Psych, PhD) is a Principal Research Fellow and Forensic Psychologist. She is the Director of the Transitions Study, a large, multi-site study examining predictors of illness change and progression in young help-seekers. This major study, funded by an NHMRC Program Grant, is led by Orygen Youth Health Research Centre (OYHRC) and the Brain and Mind Research Institute in Sydney. A/Prof Purcell is also a Chief Investigator on the Simple Interventions Trial, and along with colleagues at OYHRC is helping to establish a research program into forensic outcomes among young people with mental health issues. Between 2007-2011, A/Prof Purcell was the Team Leader of the headspace Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health, where she oversaw a large program of research mapping, translation and dissemination of evidence relating to treatments for mental health problems in young people aged 12-25 years. Before joining OYHRC in 2005, A/Prof Purcell worked in forensic mental health, specialising in the assessment and treatment of stalking victims and stalkers. Along with colleagues, she co-authored Stalkers and their Victims (Cambridge University Press, 2000, 2009), which won the prestigious Manfred S. Guttmacher Award from the American Psychiatric Association. A/Prof Purcell has over 70 publications, including 5 books. In addition to her role at OYHRC, A/Prof Purcell is the Managing Editor, and an Associate Editor of Early Intervention in Psychiatry (Wiley-Blackwell).
