Jo Robinson

Jo Robinson graduated from Birmingham University, England with a BSC Hons in Psychology. She then went on to obtain a masters degree in Psychology from the University of Manchester, England in 1999.

Jo’s first research appointment was as a Research Associate for Kings College London where she had responsibility of conducting an evaluation of mental health services in Manchester. In 1999 Jo took the post of Project Manager for the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide by People with Mental Illness. Here she coordinated a national research project examining all instances of suicides by people in receipt of mental health services in the UK. At the same time Jo spent a year working for the Department of Health on the development and implementation of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England.

Jo moved to Australia in 2004 where she took up the post of Research Fellow at Orygen Research Centre with specific responsibility for developing a program of work around suicide prevention. Jo now coordinates several suicide prevention research projects and is an investigator on several more. She has fostered collaborations with several other university departments.

Jo also has an interest in policy development and has sat on advisory committees for both the state and federal government. She has participated in several planning forums for the Australian Suicide Prevention Framework and has represented Victoria as a State delegate to the board of Suicide Prevention Australia.
