Dr Andrew Chanen
Dr Andrew Chanen is a Senior Lecturer at the Orygen Youth Health Research Centre. He holds clinical appointments as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Medical Director at Orygen Youth Health and as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Adolescent Forensic Health Service in Melbourne, Australia. At Orygen, he founded and directs the HYPE Clinic, an early intervention program for borderline personality disorder.
Dr Chanen heads a research program into the nature of and interventions for personality disorder in youth, and a training program in early intervention for borderline personality disorder and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (Ryle and Kerr 2002). He has held grants from the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). His research includes the recently published first randomised controlled trial of early intervention for borderline personality disorder in young people.
Dr Chanen has been a member of the executive board of the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ISSPD) since 2003. He is Chairperson of the organising committee of the 12th International Congress of the ISSPD, to be held in Melbourne in 2011. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Early Intervention in Psychiatry and Personality and Mental Health and is a reviewer for local and international scientific journals.
