National cannabis mental health early intervention and training program

Regular cannabis use is associated with a wide range of mental health issues, with early onset use particularly associated with poorer outcomes. This initiative utilises a range of educational approaches to build community and service capacity to identify and manage emerging cannabis and related mental health issues among young people. The early intervention focus incorporates information to assist peers and parents in early detection and referral of emerging cannabis and related mental health issues, as well as a tiered education program that offers differing levels of complexity and intervention according to worker credentials, experience and the severity of presentations typically seen (e.g., education sector workers (SWC, teachers), community workers, alcohol and other drugs workers, and mental health professionals). This large program is funded through the National Cannabis Prevention and Intervention Centre.
