Overview
Prof Jorm first demonstrated the poor "mental health literacy" of the Australian community in the mid-1990s using a large national survey. His work went on to show a considerable gap in beliefs about mental disorders between the public and mental health professionals. Since then Prof Jorm has been interested in population-wide interventions to improve mental health literacy, as well as training programs to improve knowledge and helping skills in people who are likely to have close contact with people who are developing mental health problems.
