Overview

Orygen Youth Health Research Centre (OYH-RC) is Australia's largest youth mental health research centre. Our current research program aims to understand the biological, psychological and social factors that influence onset, remission and relapse of mental illnesses in order to find better ways to prevent and/or reduce the impact of mental disorders for young people.

Building on its contribution in initiating and sustaining the now worldwide clinical research interest in early psychosis, OYH-RC has progressively expanded its research capacity and developed key collaborations across the diagnostic spectrum to include other potentially serious mental disorders with peak onset in the 12–25 year period, such as depression, substance use disorders, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder and eating disorders. OYH-RC is now regarded as one of the pre-eminent psychiatric research institutes in Australia, and in terms of its focus on emerging disorder, youth and early intervention, as an international leader.
